"Number Two, I can't find Number Six."
"That's no way to report!"
"I've tried everywhere!"
"Don't worry, he'll turn up. It's only a matter of time. He's very undisciplined."
"Shall I watch Number Thirty-four instead?"
"No, he's dead."
"Dead! When?"
"Its none of our business."
"I got to know him quite well."
"He didn't know you, did he!"
{Number 2, Number 240, and Number 22 - Dance of the Dead}
For one who is a stickler for the rules, Number 240 shows a remarkable grasp for disobeying the chain of command, but reporting she couldn't find Number 6 direct to Number 2, instead of going through her Supervisor-Number 22. Number 240 didn't know Number Thirty-four was dead, well she wouldn't would she. 34 died sometime in the night, while Number 240 was on the day shift! The Supervisor-Number 22 {the first female supervisor} gives the impression of being something of an unfeeling cog in the machine. And yet she does not hide her pleasure at the thought that even though, as Number 34's Observer, Number 240 got to know him quite well, Number 34 didn't know her!
Be seeing you
