Thought For The Day
So what exactly does the Prisoner mean by this sudden outburst of defiance “I am not a number, I am a free man?” It says what it is, that he's not Number 6, nor is he a prisoner. And yet there is another way of looking at it. The Prisoner having resigned his job is no longer ZM73, no longer a number. Now he's a free man, no longer a slave to work, able to go wherever he desires.
