All The Fun Of The Con

Well I have to say that curiosity got the better of my wife and I, and so at certain times we did "snoop" on the Prisoner convention held over the past weekend at Portmeirion, and these are two pictures taken via one of Portmeirion's four webcams.

The top pictire was taken during the Election Parade re-enactment, and the bottom picture taken during the re-enacment of the human chss match. The thing is, any time we logged onto the webcams there really wasn't that many people milling about. In fact at one point there didn't appear to be anyone in the Village at all. I thought they had gone on the democratic annual outing. Either that or they were all in the Hercules Hall.
Certainly the Village was void of large numbers of day visitors to actually watch the out-door re-enactments, well it was the time of year after all. But I'm sure the convention was enjoyed by those there.

  1. You should check me out at 'Andy Capp'comments (dated 12th April, 2006 - 30th April, 2006) And several other strips at GoComics.com. My username is 'Number Six' and if you click on my avatar, you'll discover more...

I have been obsessed with McGoohan and 'The Prisoner' for 30 years and was a member of 'Six Of One' where I produced 'The Jailbird' comic strip. I left the society approx 20 years ago to become a true individual! BCNU...

  2. I've called the previous mentioned 'Andy Capp' sites 'The Village', and other 'GoComics' members are 'free' to drop in to discuss any thing from 'The Prisoner' to quiche recipes.

On the 12th April, 2006 (The birth of The Village), naturally the site is very much 'Prisonerorientated' with me kicking off with my recommended screening order of the greatest TV series ever made. (No - not 'Tiswas'!) After a while, the 'Prisoner' theme becomes to calm down, although it's relevant throughout.

I guarantee you'll find the discussions extremely interesting! BCNU...

  3. FINALLY...Should you DO ever visit 'GoComics.com', be sure to check out 'Frog Applause', Jan 29th 2012.

Here also are two invaluable yet trivial pieces information about 'The Prisoner' which - with all due respect - you are unlikely to be aware of, since I have only disclosed them to fellow enthusiast Bruce Clarke in Canada.

The first is one of the most extraordinary examples of type casting I've ever come across, particularly as I have a very keen eye when it comes to actor's faces! 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet' is to Comedy Drama what 'The Prisoner' is to Cult Action Sci-Fi' and there's one particular actor with which they share a common bond. His name is Ray Marioni (What do you mean you've never heard of him?)and not only does he appear as the Croupier in 'A, B & C' (Uncredited), but he also appears 18 years later as the Spanish Croupier in the episode 'For Better Or Worse' in the second series of 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet'!

The second is the very young appearance of comic actor Roger Lloyd Pack, 42 (How's that for an iconic number?)minutes into the episode 'It's Your Funeral'. As you'll know, his father Charles Lloyd Pack has a credited role in the same episode and it would appear that 'daddy' pulled a few strings!

'Feel free' to pass this information on but don't forget where you heard it first! And give my regards to Max Hora, Howard Foy, Roger and Karen Langley, Dave Jones and the rest of the 'gang' should you see them on your travels!

    Best Wishes,
'Number Six' (Steve Matt - creator of 'The Jailbird'.)

  4. Hello Steve,

I knew who you were of course, from 'The jailbird' reference which I remember from 'Number Six' magazine. How have you been keeping?

I will drop in and check you out at 'Gocomics.com' when I get a free moment. Just now there are not enough hours in the day. Daily blog, editing together my hard copy 'Prisoner' based newsletter the Tally Ho, and most important of all, I'm busy editing a 'Prisoner' based manuscript, but I cannot say more about that at this time.

I wasn't at the convention this year, in fact I haven't atteneded a 'Prisoner' convention since 2001. As for 'seeing' any of the 'gang,' that is extremely unlikley, as I have not been a member of Six of One for 11 years, I didn't resign, I walked out, as in time did most of the central core of the society, save for Max, and the Langleys. Didn't you hear?

Roger Lloyed Pack - In 'The Prisoner 'It's Your Funeral?' Do you mean the bloke wearing the red and black striped jersey in the crowd? If it is him, that's certainly a new one on me.

If you want to talk more, and a little less public, you can always send an email to stimpyfor6@msn.com

    Kind Regards
    David
    Be seeing you
