My lecture today ladies and gentlemen, concerns itself with the idea of whether or not the Prisoner would be a member of any club or society. Certainly he had been a guest at Sir Charles Portland's club, when they had lunch together, their favourite dish Jugged Hare being on the menu.
It is my opinion that the Prisoner would not belong to any club or society. He is an individual, and as such the Prisoner may not feel comfortable in a club or society, for fear of losing his individuality. Yet any club or indeed society, is made up of individuals, because without which any club or society would simply cease to exist. You can be a member of a club, or society, and maintain one's individuality. Yet having said that, being a member of something can influence your thought, change your mind towards other people's thinking, or you can quickly become an "outcast" simply because you think differently to the majority in society.
