No.113: “You’re not like your predecessor.”

    The Colonel: “My predecessor?”
    “He seemed a bit of a............... You helped your ex-colleague?”
    No.113b “Smile” {click goes the camera}
    “Yes, well he was a good man.”
    “You must have been shocked at his second disappearance.”
    “Second disappearance?”
   “Of your ex-colleague.”
    “The plane was reported to have been lost at sea.”
    “Yes, the report would say that.”
    “You know differently?”
    “Well doesn’t the report read a little fishy to you?”
    “No wreckage was ever found.”
    “You did search then?”
    “Well after the plane was reported as being overdue.”
    “So he convinced you about his story?”
    “Yes.”
    “And now?”
    “Are you trying to tell me that my ex-colleague is back in that Village of his?”
    “Where's Thorpe, isn't he here today?”
    “Errr no, he's taken some leave.”
    “How long has be been away?”
    “A month.”
    “Seems a long time to me, doesn't it you?”
    “Yes, now you come to mention it. Look who exactly are you?”
    “What if I told you that Thorpe is in the village as well. That he went there of his own free will, simply to have a go at Number Six?”
    “Thorpe?”
    “Well he's in the psychiatric wing of the hospital now. No.6 saw to that!”
    “Thorpe, in the psychiatric hospital?”
    “He went doo-lally! A weak link in the chain of command. You must have known what he was like.”
   “Certainly there was no love lost between Thorpe and.......”
   “No.6....... Colonel? Thank you for your time.”
