Teabreak Teaser

On the morning of his arrival in the Village, the Prisoner wanted to make a telephone call. The waitress at the cafe told him they didn't have a telephone, but that there is a phone box around the corner.
The Prisoner wanted to make a call to London, but who was it he was going to call?

  1. I would venture to say he was calling the bastards who had him kidnapped. Namely, his supervisor.

    1. Hello Dweller of the Crag,

      Welcome.
Yes, well that would have to depend on whether or not the Prisoner knew who it was who put him there. But at this early point the Prisoner doesn't know where he is, let alone who put him there, as he was unconcious at the time. My money is the Prisoner was making a telephone call for help. And as he's always seen one person as being the most likely to have helped him in the past, that would be the Colonel. Might it not? But of course unbeknown to him, the Colonel might have been behind his abduction in the first place. In that respect you'd be right, and I agree.

  2. Hello David,

Yes,I agree with the previous suggestions as possibilites.
I would also be bold and say that, knowing Drake's suspicious mind, he may have wanted to contact someone personally close to him,as opposed to a professional.

    1. Hello Anna,

Yes, point taken. And that somone personal to the Prisoner? Janet Portland maybe, or someone with whom we are not privy to in the series.

      Kind Regards

    3. Hello Anna,

Yes, you could be right. I only suggested Janet Portland because I couldn't think of anyone else who was personally close to the Prisoner. But as you say there must be someone else to whom we are not privy.
Janet might not be a woman of action, but then she could have told her father Sir Charles about her fiance. Then again, Janet might have had too many questions, questions her fiance would not be able to answer.

      Regards

    5. Hello Anna,

Ah, you have made a very good point. Yes, the Prisoner only says he wants to make a call, he doesn't say where to. I was assuming it was London. But then if the Prisoner doesn't say to where he wants to make his call, why does the telephone operator tell him "Local calls only Sir"? After all he could be about to say something like "I want to make a call to Number Eight."

      David
