Have
you ever wondered when the local elections took place in the Village? The
broadsheet The Tally Ho gives no clue. And yet there is a clue, and it sits on
the bedside table in No.6's cottage, the day-date calendar which reads
Wednesday February 10th. Which is also the case in ‘The Schizoid
Man.’ Perhaps there is nothing more significant in this, that they simply
didn’t bother to change the day and date of the calendar when filming the two
bedroom scenes for ‘Free For All,’ and ‘The Schizoid Man.’
Feb 10th also appears on one issue of The Tally Ho,
which makes it unique, as no date appears on any other issue of The Tally Ho.
Although its was once assumed that there were two issues of The Tally Ho, one
for ‘A B and C,’ and another for ‘The Schizoid Man.’ This led to a short
article in an issue of Number Six magazine, in which the contributor had
arrived at the conclusion that both ‘A B and C’ and ‘The Schizoid Man’ take
place at the same time around Feb 10th in two parallel Villages!
That’s one interpretation that was just too hard to swallow. As the truth of the
matter is, this issue of The Tally Ho serves guy well for both episodes, in ‘A
B and C’ it’s the headline the viewer should notice “Is No.2 Fit For Further
Term? and not the date. In ‘The Schizoid Man’ it is the date that is important,
and not the headline. Simples! Otherwise there would be three events taking place in the same day. Even if one stands for two parallel Villages, three would be stretching it too far! On the other hand, perhaps it was always February 10th in The Village!
Be seeing you
