Face To Face With An Old Friend!
This isn’t the first time Number 6 has come face to face with himself in The Village, and as it happens it will not be the last, at the very least twice more. The only question in this case is, is the bust of himself, or of Curtis? Judging by the expression on his face Number 6 looks annoyed by the bust of himself, he probably didn’t expect to find it. And then in a moment his expression changes, he appears to be pleased with himself, that he’s come up with an idea, as if to say I’ll get one over on them yet!
Number 6 did once humour an eccentric artist by sitting to have his portrait painted, but really it’s improbable that he sat while madam Professor sculpted his bust in clay. Remember at the outset of ‘the General,’ Number 6 appeared ignorant of Speedlearn, the Professor, and the General. If that is so he would hardly know of madam Professor. It’s always possible she could have sculpted the bust from photographs of the subject. Would that also go for the bust of Number 2 from ‘The Chimes of Big Ben,’ one she could have entered into the Exhibition of Arts and Crafts. That would have been right up madam Professor’s street! But then that would have meant the Professor and his wife had been in The Village during ‘The Chimes of Big Ben,’ and yet why not? They were practically prisoners in their home from home, never seen in The Village itself. And they would have had to have been brought to The Village long before the episode of ‘The General,’ seeing as by the commencement of the episode Speedlearn is well established amongst the students!
Be seeing you
