Number 6 went home while outside everybody
seems to be falling over themselves celebrating the fruits of Speedlearn. He
switched on the lights, then as he switched on the overhead light, it fused
instantly, and put out all the lights! Immediately the telephone begins to
bleep, Number 6 picks up the receiver, and the voice on the other end of the
line instructing Number 6 to stay where he is, do not leave, the reported fault
on the electrical circuit will be attended to, Electrics and Administration are
on their way. Candles for such an emergency are in the upper kitchen cabinet.
You would have thought Number 6 would have known where the candles are kept, in
his own cottage, without having to be told!
So Number 6 lit one candle, an electrician
from Electrics turned up. Number 6 told him where the offending light was. Then
Number 12 of Administration turned up. The electrician reported an apparent
deliberate short circuit across the contacts of the light bulb. In other words,
sabotage! But just a minute, that one candle gives off a great deal of light
don‘t you think? The cottage
should be in almost complete darkness until the emergency supply is connected.
As for Number 6 and Number 12, they look as
though they’ve taken bets as to how
long it will take for that candle to burn down!
Be seeing you
