An Offer Of Authority!

If the Prisoner co-operates, tells them what they want to know, he can spend the rest of his days living in a very nice place - the village. And he may even be given a position of authority. This is what we learn during the debriefing of the Prisoner by the first Number 2 during the episode of ‘Arrival.’
Number 2 of ‘The Chimes of Big Ben’ woke up one day to find himself in the village. He resisted, but for so a short a time, that he gave them all they wanted to know, perhaps this Number 2 hadn't been a field operative like Number 6. They must have offered him the same as the Prisoner, a position of authority. Because next thing you know he's Number 2-Chairman of the village, well a man like Number 2 is a man worth having on your side. As Number 2 once said himself, that it had been his lot, in the past, to wield a not inconsiderable power. Nay he has had the ear of statesmen, Kings and Princes of many lands. Governments have been swayed, policies defined and revolutions nipped in the bud at a word from him in the right place and at the propitious time. Such a fate as achieving the position of Number 2 would never worry No.6 of course. He will resist right to the bitter end. Although having said that, Number 6 was elected to that said position of Number 2 in ‘Free For All,’ even if he did only hold the position for so short a time!
There was also the offer of ultimate power made to him by the President. But that was of course rejected by the Prisoner. Perhaps that is what brought him to his current state of affairs in the first place!

I'll be seeing you
