Sir’s Inauguration And The Transfer Of Ultimate Power

If "sir" as he was then known during 'Fall Out,' was to face his inauguration, then the transfer of ultimate power to him would surely follow. What would then physically happen to No.1? Perhaps he would cease to exist, or perhaps somehow they change places? If No.6 and No.1 are one and the same, as McGoohan has it, and it is No.6's evil side who was No.1 at the time of his abduction to the Village, then would not "sir's" inauguration and the transfer of ultimate power to him, not bode well for the citizens of  the Village? Because surely it would then be No.1's other self , his good side who would be No.1. The others Hyde to his Jekyll. Either way, physically things would remain the same!
So why look to replace No.1? Perhaps they thought that if they could persuade the former No.6 to lead them, he might find a better way for the Village.

Be seeing you

  1. Hi David,

I really like that mind game what would have happened if Number 6 and Number 1 would have changed places. Maybe it would have been Number 1 who had returned to London, working as a Secret Agent until recognizing that he wants to get out and resigning, and so on.

Another thought: Number 1 and Number 6 are one person, so i a way this change of power would be a change that even the village could allow, because it was no change. The village had observed Number 6 and he had passed all tests so we can be sure that they were sure that Number 6 would have made a good Number 1.

If Number 6 had found a better way for the village - I don't know. If he really would have tried, he had created or maintained the prison he wanted to abolish. He would have been Number 1, his evil side, but no longer Number 6.

    Kind regards,
    Jana

    1. Hello Jana,

That would have been interesting, No.1 returning to London to take the place of the Prisoner-No.6. Do you know, I think there's a story in that somewhere.....the wheels are beginning to turn already.

No.1 who wants out, to pass the Village on to someone else - No.6! But as you say, with No.6 and No.1 being the same person, it is a change of power that could be allowed because they are the same. There would be no change, and things would stay the same. I agree.
I mean to say, who could blame No.1 for wanting out.....what kind of life did he have in the Village? He couldn't go out and enjoy the Village as other citizens do, not unless he went out in the Village as Curtis-No.12, in otherwords impersonating No.6!

I did wonder what kind of Village No.6 might have made, had he accepted the offer of ultimate power. But then on the otherhand, look what he did after being elected as the new No.2 in 'Free For All,' he tried to organise a mass breakout!

      Very kind regards
      David
