Cycleology of The Prisoner
That’s one thing which is clear at the end
of ‘the Prisoner,’ that at the end of ‘Fall out’ ‘Arrival’ begins all over
again, in a vicious circle. And yet if we consider the actuality of the
situation, wouldn’t that be impossible? It’s alright for the Prisoner, in
having resigned his job finding himself abducted to The Village. But what about
everyone else who was originally in The Village, how easy would it be to have
all those people all brought back to The Village in time for the Prisoner’s
arrival? Physically it would be impossible. But in a dream, in the subconscious
mind, that’s another matter. This “all in the Prisoner’s mind, the events in
The Village having taken pace in his subconscious against the reality of The
Village” has all been discussed many times before. Indeed it has been said that
‘the Prisoner’ can be both, in the mind and actuality depending on the
situation. But if The Village is taking
place in the Prisoner’s subconscious mind, while his mind is in The Village,
what’s he physically doing all that time? Perhaps simply going about his
everyday life, having resigned his job! Or that could simply be wishful
thinking on ZM73’S part?

Hi David,
ReplyDeleteif the Village really is just a nightmare of the Prisoner, then maybe what we see in the intro is just what actually happens to him.. Might be that he's just lying in his bed, unconsciously, waiting for the undertaker's to arrive, and foreseeing what might happen to him if they get him.
Best regards,
Jana

Isn't that what happens in the P09, in a way? M2 kept sleeping by the means of pills while she is sleeping IN the Village, apparently, as far as we can say, shouldn't she be sleeping in New York? Beware of holes, err, traps! I'd like to deliberate on the Prisoner as both physical action and a "mental manifestation". Two sides of one coin. - BCNU!
DeleteHello Jane and Arno,
DeleteThat's a nice idea, the Prisoner lying in bed waiting unconsciously to be abducted to The Village. And after that the Prisoner goes about his everyday life {if his former employers allow him to do so} while in his subconscous he's in The Village. Exactly what happens in THEPRIS6NER 2009.
And you are perfectly correct about THEPRIS6NER 2009 Arno, that is exactly what happens in that sereis, with M2/Helen at any rate. That fact had not passed me by, for my part I was deliberately attempting to keep the two series seperate.
As far as M2 goes she is an anomaly. M2 shouldn't be dreaming The Village at all, that's the task of her other self Helen in New York. And in Helen's defence, she does spend all her time lying in a recliner in her New York apartment dreaming The Village. So really there is no need for M2 to be confined to her bed the way she is.
I am aware of your liking for deliberating both the physical action, and the mental manifestation of 'the Prisoner.' At times I have done likewise, but with the orginal series I have never found it easy to mix the two. With THEPRIS6NER its a far easier thing to do, because you see the subconscious existence of the Village where Six exists, and the actuallity of Michael's life in New York. With the original series this is not seen. The only time we see Number 6 in the real world beyond The Village is when he is sent out into the world. The trouble with that is, the Prisoner could be dreaming it.
To borrow a saying from Number 6, "He who digs a pit will one day lie in it," and I feel I'm digging that pit now, so I'll stop digging!
Very kind regards to you both

Hello David,
Delete"And after that the Prisoner goes about his everyday life {if his former employers allow him to do so} while in his subconscous he's in The Village. Exactly what happens in THEPRIS6NER 2009."
That's one possiblity... But on the other hand maybe when he wakes up his dream and the Village are just gone. Or at least vanish after a while similar to the Village which Helen is dreaming when she wakes up.
What happens to ZM73 after he (really) wakes up - I don't know. Maybe he finds himself in the Cooler, or in an apartment much like his own, where every amenity is available but he is under consistent surveillance. ;)
Best wishes,
Jana

constant - not consistent
DeleteHello Jana,
DeleteThat's a very good question about ZM73, I don't know what happens when he wakes up, I guess he's no longer in The Village, subconsciously that is, and not until he gos to sleep again. Unless of course he's a heavy "day dreamer!"
Very kind regards

Hello Jana,
DeleteIn 'Dance of the Dead,' Number 2 told Number 6 that if he insists on living a dream, he may be taken for mad. Anyone who keeps dreaming The Village as their world probably is mad. Number 6 told Number 2 that he likes his dream. But does Number 6 mean his dream of The Village, or the World he dreams about beyond the confines of The Village?
Very best regards
David
