This morning when I checked my emails, I found three in my inbox from Christine, who is a good friend of mine, and reader of my blog. The emails contained links to film footage of the 1993 and 1994 Prisoner Conventions held at Portmeirion.
The first film is not the best quality, but it was filmed on Super 8 film, and for Morag and I, seeing this film was like discovering lost film footage of 'the Prisoner.' It brought back many memories, to see ourselves in re-enactments.
The film was shot by a Frenchman at the conventuion.

The following film is also of the 1994 Prisoner Convention, and is a much better quality.

I hope you enjoy the two films, and my earnest thanks go to Christine for bringing these films to my attention.
Be seeing you
Wonderful to see these. I've only been to the village once: it's still a defining moment. Seeing it through other's eyes is endlessly fascinating. Thanks you for posting.
ReplyDeleteHello 42,
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you. This video post has proved to be very popular with readers of my blog. What's more it was the first time I had seen the super 8 film footage, and there I was, No.6 on the chessboard, in the Election Parade and in the fencing scene. It was nice to see it after 19 years, a real trip for me down memory lane.
Keep in touch
Very kind regards

Hello David,
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed watching these films. The re-enactments look so professional and there were so many people.Must have been very exciting for those taking part and staying in Portmeirion.I should imagine it felt as though one was actually a part of The Prisoner...
Regards,
Anna.
Hello Anna,
ReplyDeleteIt was exciting both organising, and taking part in those re-enactments. And yet after the first couple of Conventions we got used to it. The Super 8 film footage gives a very good impression how Prisoner Conventions used to be. When Morag and I organsised, and performed in a large number of re-enactments, we did so not just for members of Six of One attending the Convention, but also for the general public, the day visitors visiting Portmeirion at the time of Convention weekends. On the Sunday's Election Parade, there was in excess of 200 people who took part, Six of One members as well as members of the general public. "Oh look" a woman said "there's Parick McGoohan!" It was flattering that a good many people thought I was Patrick McGoohan. But the thing is, people remember McGoohan as he was in 'the Prisoner.' and not at the age he actually was at that time in 1994.
In a way, the Super 8 film footage looked like archive film of the filming of 'the Prisoner.' So yes, I suppose it was as though it was part of 'the Prisoner.'
Very kind regards
David
