Caught On Camera

The location at which this picture was taken is unknown, although it is likely to be somewhere on the Welsh coast of Cardigan Bay, where the raft at sea with the gun runners boat was filmed for part of Many Happy Returns. In the foreground the raft that No.6 built, but with two men who have the raft fitted with the out-board motor taken from the boat tied to the raft. In the background the gun runners boat, or M.S. Polotska, but to give her her proper name BREDA, beached! And part of her history was to be one of the "little ships" having taken part in the evacuation of Dunkirk in WWII.
At one point during filming for Many Happy Returns the raft broke free and was lost in the Irish Sea. The coastguard was notified by a member of the production crew, the coastgaurd who was not very happy about this, made a search for the raft, which was a large hunky craft and might have proved to have been a danger to shipping. But as the story goes, the raft was never found.
