“I'm Going
To Escape And Come Back.”
“Come back?”
“Escape, Come Back. Wipe This Place Off The Face Of The
Earth, Obliterate It, And You With It.”
{Number 2 and Number 6 - The Chimes of Big Ben}
So, simply
to escape The Village is not good enough for Number 6. He's going to escape and
come back, wipe it off the face of the Earth, obliterate it. Well at least he
was able to keep part of that promise. He did escape in ‘Many Happy Returns,’
and he did come back. I couldn’t count ‘The Chimes of Big Ben,’ because Number
6 didn’t actually escape during that episode. Well I suppose he did escape The
Village, but he was always in the clutches of the enemy. And it was they who
brought him back to The Village.
‘Fall Out’ did see Number 6 escape, what’s more he made it
all the way back to England. And in a way it could be said that he
destroyed The Village, although it wasn’t obliterated off the face of the
Earth, he caused its evacuation by the launching of that missile. I suppose
that if either the Russians, Americans, and the British had retaliated, then
The Village would have been wiped off the Earth three fold! Then think of the
fallout! But as it is The Village was left intact, that’s because any day then,
the Prisoner was set to return there having handed in his letter of
resignation. Cue dark clouds, cue thunder, cue the long deserted runway {road},
cue Lotus Seven, cue the Prisoner………….!
Be seeing you
